In this workshop, Dr. Voevodin will cover the basics of DoD research programs and funding opportunities in fundamental and applied research. Dr. Andrey A. Voevodin is the Interim Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in The College of Engineering, University of North Texas (UNT). He holds Metallurgy Engineer (1986) and Materials Science PhD (1991) degrees from Tula State Technical University, Russia. In 1993-1994, he was a UK Royal Society Research Fellow in the University of Hull and in 1994 joined Materials and Manufacturing Directorate of Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), WPAFB, Ohio as a National Research Council Fellow. From 1994 to 2015, Dr. Voevodin worked in AFRL, where he was a Principal Research Scientist and Team Leader for tribological, thermal management, and nanoelectronic material research teams prior to joining UNT in Fall 2015.
Dr. Voevodin is a professor of the Materials Science and Engineering Department at UNT. He advised and graduated 18 PhD and 5 MS students. Dr. Voevodin's expertise includes thin film deposition, plasma processes, surface engineering, surface analysis, electrical, thermal, and mechanical interfaces. His current research interests include high temperature and adaptive tribology, nanolayered, and nanostructured materials for electron and phonon transport, hybrid and pulsed plasma deposition coating technologies, laser assisted surface modification and additive manufacturing. Dr. Voevodin has over 300 technical publications, from which 235 are in peer-reviewed archived journals, one book, eight book chapters, 14 patents and inventions. His works cited over 11,000 times with current citation h-index=59. Dr. Voevodin is a regular organizer, editor, and presenter at international materials and surface modification conferences. He is a recipient of multiple scientific achievement awards from US Air Force and professional societies and is a Fellow of AVS Science and Technology Society.
