Dr. Gupta will talk about his journey as an engineer-entrepreneur with the focus on how he started his first company with a meager $1,000 and made it a highly successful technology company. He will share with the audience the highs and lows of a start-up and how the success led to foundations of many other ventures and companies.
Dr. Kedar P. Gupta is founder and CEO of ARC Energy, a renewable energy company whose mission is to develop and commercialize innovative technologies that can help to provide a clean, sustainable environment for our current and future generations. Currently, he is also serving on the boards of many companies and is a venture-capitalist. Previously, Dr. Gupta co-founded GT Solar (also known as GTi), that designed, manufactured, installed, and maintained high-technology semi-custom and specialty equipment for the "high-end" photovoltaic and semiconductor industries. In 2006, GT Solar went public on NASDAQ (NASDAQ: SOLR). Prior to forming GT Solar, Dr. Gupta was the Vice President and General Manager of the Systems Equipment Division of Ferrofluidics Corporation. He was responsible for growing that business from under 5% market share to more than 60% in a five year period.
Dr. Gupta is well recognized for his entrepreneurship and is associated with many entrepreneurial activities. He has authored many technical publications and has been awarded numerous patents. Among these include the prestigious 2001 R&D 100 Award for developing Supercritical CO2 for semiconductor applications. Over the years, Dr. Gupta and his companies have received many prestigious awards, such as 1998 New Hampshire High Tech Council Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Deloitte & Touche Technology Fast 500 for one of the 500 fastest growing technologies in the US, 2002 NH Exporter of the Year award from the U.S. Small Business Administration, and the 2005 National Small Business Environmental Exporter of the Year award from the Export-Import Bank of the United States. Dr. Gupta received his Masters and Ph.D. degrees in materials science and engineering from State University of New York, Stony Brook, his MBA from Lindenwood Colleges, St. Charles, MO and B.Tech in metallurgy from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur.
