Biography

Aloysius (Al) Attah, Ph.D., P.E. is a scholar-practitioner and entrepreneur with over thirty years of academic and industry experience. He is a faculty member in the College of Engineering at the University of North Texas (UNT). Attah joined UNT in 2012 after teaching aerospace/aviation systems courses at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and statistics/operations management courses at DeVry University. His most notable positions in industry included manufacturing engineer, product engineering project specialist, and program coordinator/manager with the Boeing Company for nearly 17 years. His assignments covered the 737, 747, 757, 767, and 777 airplane avionics systems.

In 2007, Attah founded Macval Associates LLC based in Dallas, Texas. The firm’s services include construction and management of civil engineering projects with a focus on paving, drainage, water, and wastewater systems, among others. Some of the firm’s projects are featured in (a) Modern Construction: Lean Project Delivery and Integrated Practices (1st ed.) published in 2010, and (b) Lean Project Delivery and Integrated Practices in Modern Construction (2nd ed.) published in 2020.

Attah holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Dayton, M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington, M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Information Systems Management from Walden University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas. He is Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) by APICS; he is also certified as an Environmental Assessment Consultant (EAC) by the National Society of Environmental Consultants. His research and presentations focus on lean project delivery systems and information systems.

Attah is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IISE). He was past president of the Construction Division of IISE; past president of IISE Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Chapter; and past chairman of Professional Engineers in Industry- Mid Cities Chapter of Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE). Some of his honors and awards include Industrial Engineer of the year; IISE gold award for leadership; outstanding performance awards from the Boeing Company; teaching excellence honors; and community service awards. He is inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society which recognizes high standard of scholastic achievement, and an ethos of integrity, innovation, respect, collaboration, and diversity.
