About the Program

The Senior Design/Capstone Program in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering provides students with an opportunity to interact with industry partners (sponsors) to define, design, build and deploy real-world systems. The department provides a two-semester capstone experience in each of our three undergraduate major programs. These experiences integrate all of the technical knowledge and skills from their courses and internships, as well as providing valuable experience in team-building, project management, oral and written communications, and problem solving.

Project categories and themes range from Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity and Information Technology.

At the end of each academic year, all projects are showcased at the UNT College of Engineering's Research & Design Expo.

Become a Sponsor

Your involvement provides students with invaluable hands-on learning while offering you fresh perspectives and potential talent to use for your company. Sponsors can be companies, non-profits, community service organization, academic departments and even individuals with ideas for start-ups. In some cases, sponsors pay a small fee to help with project costs. These vary by size and type or organization and project.

How do you sponsor a Capstone Project?

  • Provide your idea: Propose a technical challenge relevant to the field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or Information Technology. Sponsors typically have an idea or issue they would like assistance in, such as website creation, secure processing, mobile functionality, or others.
  • Mentor a Team: Each student team consists of 3-6 seniors. You may act as a corporate mentor, participate in design reviews, meet regularly with the team (in person, via phone, or online), guide the project, and evaluate the final product.
  • Judge or Evaluate: Join us at our Research and Design Expo event for final presentations and offer expert feedback.

If you are interested in sponsoring a project, please reach out to our Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies, David Keathly (david.keathly@unt.edu).
