Overview

The Grade Appeals committee specifically handles CSCE courses offered only by the UNT Department of Computer Science & Engineering. This information will not pertain to you if you are a student taking a non-CSCE course.

The Grade Appeals committee only handles the appeal of a final CSCE course grade and not the grades of any individual course assignments.

Before beginning a Grade Appeal, student must discuss in writing the course grade with the instructor in an attempt to resolve the issue. No later than 10 calendar days after the start of the following academic term.

Directions

A student may appeal a grade when the student believes the:
  1. grade was based on unfair treatment;
  2. instructor departed from standards set out in the course syllabus without a rational academic reason; or
  3. an error was made in calculating the grade, including failure to factor an assignment, project, quiz, or examination.

To begin the Grade Appeals process, please fill out this form.

Once completed, send form to CSEGradeAppeal@unt.edu.

Other Types of Appeals

Should your grade appeal be based on discrimination or harassment, this should be directed to UNT Equal Opportunity & Title IX (EO/TIX)

For other issues (not grade appeals) related to CSCE courses or instructors, please route to the appropriate Associate Chair in our Department.

For non-curricular issues or complaints not directly related to CSCE courses or instructors, please direct this to the UNT Dean of Students office.

If a low grade is the result of an academic integrity violation (e.g. cheating, plagiarism, etc), the appropriate process is an Appeal of Academic Integrity.

Understanding the academic organizational structure and appropriate Chain of Command is important when resolving class-related issues. When you need problems resolved, you should start with your individual faculty member who will then help you navigate the Chain of Command shown below.
