The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at the University of North Texas (UNT) started in 2003 and has experienced rapid growth since then. UNT is a “R1 Doctoral University with the highest research activity”, which is Carnegie's top classification for research universities. The department is committed to educating globally competitive engineers and tomorrow's leaders by teaching innovative courses and conducting leading-edge research within the broad area of mechanical and energy-related sciences. With an undergraduate enrollment of over 790 students and a graduate enrollment of 65 M.S. and 20 Ph.D. students, it is one of the most sought after majors in the college of engineering. The Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks qualified individuals for its Adjunct Instructor pool and welcomes applicants at any time. This posting is for the Fall 2020, Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 semesters. The specific courses involved may vary from semester to semester and openings to teach these courses develop on a periodic basis, depending on department teaching needs. The anticipated need is for Adjunct Instructors whose duties may include, but are not limited to teaching the following courses: Thermos 1 ; Programming MEE; Systems, Dynamics & Control Geo Thermal Heat Pumps; Automotive Manufacturing; Mechanics 1 (Statics); Mechanics 3 (Materials); Oil & Gas; Analytical Methods, Feedback Control Systems; Advanced Math Method FEA; Principles of HVAC; Alt Energy, Construction & Engineering Management.

The faculty hired (excluding Lecturers and Adjuncts) would be expected to develop strong research programs funded by external sources in their areas of expertise, collaborate with researchers within and outside of the department, teach ME undergraduate and graduate courses, support and mentor students, and provide services to the University and the profession.
Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely-related field. For the Assistant Professor position, a strong publication record and the potential to succeed in securing research funding and mentoring graduate students are required. For the Associate Professor/Professor position, the additional requirements include a sustained record of scholarship and external research funding with active grant(s), successful mentoring of junior faculty, and recognized services.
