Dr. Jincheng Du, Department Chair

Welcome to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of North Texas! As one of the fastest-growing MSE departments in the South and across the nation, we are at the forefront of groundbreaking materials research and education. Our department is dedicated to developing new materials, improving existing ones, driving innovative applications across a wide range of materials from metals and alloys, glass and ceramics, semiconductors, nanomaterials, to polymer and composite materials. Importantly, all our research efforts are tied to prepare our students for their success in their future careers from industrial, research and academics.

Our strength lies in our world-class faculty and research facilities. With advanced resources in areas such as materials characterization, additive manufacturing, nanofabrication, and computation, we offer hands-on learning and research opportunities that prepare students for the challenges of the modern world. Our faculty, including two members of the National Academy of Engineering and four NSF CAREER awardees, are internationally recognized for their expertise covers structural, functional and nano materials, as well as in materials characterization, processing to modeling and simulations, which make us one of the most comprehensive MSE departments in the state and across the region.

With the commitment to teaching excellence and student success, we seamlessly integrate research with education, providing both undergraduate and graduate students (MS and PhD levels) with unparalleled opportunities to collaborate with faculty on cutting-edge projects. Whether your interests lie in advanced materials for aerospace, energy solutions, biomedical implants, nuclear energy, microelectronics or beyond, you will find a vibrant academic and research community here. UNT is a Carnegie Tier 1 Research University, also a Minority and Hispanic Serving Institution designated by US Department of Education; we are conveniently located in the Dallas and Fort Worth Metroplex.

It is an honor to serve as Chair during this exciting time of growth. I invite you to visit us in Denton, easily accessible via DFW (or Dallas Love Field), to explore our research capabilities and discover opportunities for collaboration. Together, we can continue to push the boundaries of materials science and shape the future of technology.

Sincerely,

Jincheng Du, Ph.D.
