The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is a high-caliber program that attracts attention from across the nation. It boasts small classes and qualified, approachable faculty, and its supportive learning environment inspires high academic achievement.
The MTSE department offers undergraduate and graduate level education with three degrees:
Each path follows innovative curriculum that addresses the educational and technological challenges of creating, applying and characterizing new materials for the 21st century, with training in all aspects of modern materials including metals, ceramics, polymers, electronic and optical materials and materials characterization.
The mission of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering is to provide a high quality education to our diverse student population through excellence and innovation in teaching and research in order to serve the scientific and engineering needs of the state of Texas and the nation. This will be achieved by a balance of formal course work, practical laboratory training, and research projects that encompass both the basic science and the applied aspects of materials science and engineering.
