Winning Team of the 'Sustainability through Cybersecurity’ track of Siemens' Tech for Sustainability 2024 Competition

03/14/2024

Our team (PhD students Amal Alshehri and Burak Tufekci, and Assistant Prof. Cihan Tunc) have worked on identifying IoT/OT devices based on their network behavior to enforce Zero Trust in cyberspace, we refer to as "OTZET: Operational Technology Zero Trust Engine for Trustworthiness". This allows utilizing also legacy devices and minimally changing the environment to achieve higher sustainability. We presented our proof-of-concept using multiple devices with different sensors. Our group was selected as the winning team (March 14, 2024) of the 'Sustainability through Cybersecurity' track of Siemens' globally organized Tech for Sustainability 2024 Competition.

Tech for Sustainability is a global initiative for students, researchers, startups, and innovative individuals to leverage technology to solve real-world sustainability challenges and shape our future along with Siemens. Participants could choose one of six challenges and worked on real problems by submitting their ideas or participating as hackers.
