ETEC alumnus receives Ph.D. degree in Biological Engineering

Emmanuel OgunsonaUNT Mechanical Engineering Technology (MEET) 2006 Alumnus, Emmanuel Ogunsona recently received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biological Engineering from the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. The title of Dr. Ogunsona’s dissertation is “Studies on Engineered Bio-composites from Polyamides and Bio-based Carbonaceous Fillers.” Prior to obtaining a PhD from the University of Guelph, Dr. Ogunsona received a Master of Science in Materials Sciences and Engineering from the University of North Texas (2007), completing a thesis on “Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Foamed Biodegradable Polymer Blends of Polycaprolactone and Mater-Bi.” As a Mechanical Engineering Technology student, Dr. Ogunsona’s senior design project was on “The Design and Development of a Laboratory Scale Heat Exchanger Unit.”

Since graduating from the UNT MEET Program, Dr. Ogunsona published many articles and has given several presentations on his research. He is also a holder of a provisional patent (July, 2016) on “Biocarbon and nylon based hybrid carbonaceous biocomposites and methods of making those and uses thereof.”

While he pursued a PhD in Biological Engineering, he worked in several positions ranging from Laboratory/Technology Support Manager, Student Affairs Coordinator, Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant. He is now working as a scientific intern for Bioindustrial Innovation where he is involved in the research and development of bio-industries products.
