In this seminar, Prof. Aouadi will share with you his insights on how to write a successful manuscript to be published in a peer-reviewed journal. He has been an editor of Surface and Coatings Technology (Impact Factor = 3.784) for 7 years. His presentation will include topics such as an introduction to scholarly publishing, journal organization, building a strong manuscript, what editors want, and the ethics of publishing. He will provide concrete examples on papers that he has handled.
Samir M. Aouadi is an associate professor in the department of materials science and engineering at the University of North Texas (UNT). He received his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from the University of British Columbia. His primary research focus is in surface science and engineering for space, aerospace, energy, and biomedical applications. He is an expert in thin film technology using sputtering, electron beam, and atomic layer deposition. He has pioneered research on high temperature tribological coatings with a focus on ternary oxides and adaptive coatings. Other areas research projects that he has recently undertaken include self-healing ceramics and surface modification of porous bone implants. He has published 104 papers in refereed journals (Total citations = 2657, h-index = 29). He has been active within the AVS community with an emphasis on the ICMCTF meeting for 20 years: Chair of the biomaterials session (2003-2007); Chair of the tribology session (2011-2013); Symposium E chair (2013-2016); Guest editor of the special issue of the ICMCTF (2011-2013); Lead editor of the special issue of the ICMCTF (2013-2018); Publications chair of the special issue of the ICMCTF (2018-Pres.). In addition, he was elected to be the co-chair of the ICMCTF 2021 meeting, the chair of the ICMCTF 2022 meeting and the general chair of the ICMCTF 2023 meeting. He is also a regular editor for Surface and Coatings Technology since 2013 and is on the advisory board of the European Materials Research Society (2016-Pres.) and CIMTEC (2010-Pres.).
