Drexel Nanomaterials Institute, Drexel University, 2024 Research In the Ruocun Wang Research Lab, we make new materials and engineer materials at the nanoscale to tackle energy storage challenges. We employ a suite of characterization techniques to understand the science behind material structure-property relationships. We use a combination of solid-state synthesis and selective etching to develop metastable inorganic materials, such as MXenes and transition metal oxides. These materials are characterized using physical and chemical methods to determine their structure and then tested electrochemically to discover their properties as ion hosts for applications, such as batteries. We are developing in-house in situ characterization techniques such as interferometric scattering microscopy and UV-Vis-NIR spectroelectrochemistry to understand the mechanisms of ion/material interactions.
