He holds degrees in Mining Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy and a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Cambridge, in the UK. For most of his career he has been involved in R&amp;D activities addressing process related material improvements for extreme environments. He has also engaged in expeditionary science activities and in 2006 was part of a landmark expedition in the Indian Ocean that characterized pollution using synchronized unmanned systems, that better defined atmospheric forcing from carbon particles. He was a SETA for DARPA for 5 years and has spent much of his career attempting to introduce new techniques and perspectives to traditional engineering and manufacturing approaches.</main-content></item>
