Undergraduate Core Requirements

The College of Engineering has specific requirements for courses you must take. Your degree plan will also be affected by the university core requirements in the undergraduate catalog, and the requirements for your department.

Students who enrolled Fall 2008 or later:

English Composition and Rhetoric (6 hours)

  • ENGL 1310/1311/1312/1313 Freshman Composition I
  • ENGL 2700 Technical Writing (REQUIRED for Engineering majors -- may not substitute ENGL 1320)

Mathematics (6 hours minimum)

  • MATH 1710 Calculus I
  • Please consult your major requirements.

Natural Sciences (11 hours minimum)

  • CHEM 1410 - 1430 or CHEM 1415 - 1435 General Chemistry* *(Required for Mechanical and Energy Engineering majors)
  • PHYS 1710 - 1730 Mechanics
  • PHYS 2220 - 2240 Electricity and Magnetism
  • ENGR 1030 Technological Systems recommended (REQUIRED for all Engineering Technology majors),
  • ENGR 2060

Students who enrolled before Fall 2008:

English Composition and Rhetoric (6 hours)

  • ENGL 2700 Technical Writing (REQUIRED for Engineering majors -- may not substitute ENGL 1320)

Communications (3 hours)

  • ENGR 2060 Professional Presentations (REQUIRED for Engineering majors -- may not substitute other communications core classes)
