Rada Mihalcea

   Rada Mihalcea, computer science and engineering associate professor, is one of only 100 university researchers nationwide to earn the 2009 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers for her groundbreaking research on the interpretation of text for language-processing applications. Mihalcea plans to integrate models such as automatic word and text translation and text-to-text similarity into educational applications to help Spanish-speaking students comprehend English texts by providing simpler English synonyms or translation into English.
