Christopher Heiden is the Academic Counselor for the UNT College of Engineering where he is primarily responsible for the integration of services that address the academic and career issues of the students.  Most recently, he developed an exchange program that allows academically prepared upperclassmen from UNT and selected UK universities to study engineering for one year in the host country.

Before moving to UNT, Dr. Heiden started his academic career at the University of Texas-Tyler. As Director of the Longview campus, he was instrumental in building a new university campus, developing its curriculum to meet growing community needs, and building rapport with the local community.  He previously worked in the engineering and manufacturing of machinery used in paper manufacturing and the mining industry.

Dr. Heiden earned his Ed.D. at UNT, and his Master’s and Bachelor degrees from the University of Texas at Tyler.  His leisure interests include history of engineering and technology, which has taken him to the United Kingdom and Europe to investigate and experience many aspects of the subject.  He also enjoys researching and restoring mechanical antiques using traditional methods and materials.

In 2010 he was named a Fulbright Scholar.  He traveled to Germany to participate in the a program designed to help international education professionals and senior higher education officials from the United States gain a better understanding of and develop long-lasting relationships with the higher education systems of Germany.
