The Department of Mechanical & Energy Engineering
Presents
Fracturing - Taking Away the Mysteries and the Myths
Friday January 31st
B155 UNT Discovery Park

Speaker: Pat Handren from Denbury Resources

About the Seminar:
We hear a lot about fracturing in the media with particular emphasis on concerns for water and the environment and also on the earthquakes “associated” with fracturing. If you work in the oil industry you are a considered a steward of industry. The purpose of this talk will be to educate attendees on fracturing concepts and processes, and will try to debunk some of the “myths” that have been generated by the media.

About the Speaker:
Pat Handren has worked in the petroleum industry for over 30 years. Pat is currently the Well Integrity Manager for the West Region at Denbury Resources. He was the Bakken Operations Engineering Manager for Denbury until it was recently sold to XTO/Exxon. Through his career, he has worked for Sun Gas Company (later Oryx Energy Company), as an independent consultant, for Carbo Ceramics and Ascent Energy Company. Pat has worked in many of the oil and gas fields across the continental United States, as well as fields in South America. He has authored and co-authored numerous papers and articles through the SPE and industry trade journals. He is an author for the US patent on overbalanced perforating. Pat has spoken at many SPE meetings and conferences. He graduated in 1981 from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas with a BS in Petroleum Engineering.
